Manila Water Foundation (MWF), the social development arm of Manila Water, in collaboration with Angat Buhay Foundation, led technical assistance sessions to Naga City in Camarines Sur to provide sustainable solutions to the city’s water supply challenges.

Through MWF’s water access, sanitation and hygiene or WASH Program, Lináng, the organization mobilized ten (10) technical volunteers from Manila Water to conduct onsite assessments and provide technical advisement to Metropolitan Naga Water District (MNWD). The activities under Lináng for MNWD facilitates the learning exchange to improve operational efficiency, maximize water resources and facilitate sustainable solutions.

Currently, Naga City and the nearby municipalities that MNWD serves are experiencing issues in water supply due to the increasing demand and the challenges posed by rapid population growth.

Through MWF’s Linang Program, the organization mobilized 10 technical volunteers from Manila Water to conduct onsite assessments, provide recommendations and share best practices with Metropolitan Naga Water District (MNWD). Manila Water, MWF, Angat Buhay Foundation and MNWD also mobilized and funded water tankers to augment water supply for the needs of Naga City and the 10-day celebration of the Feast of Peñafrancia.

Manila Water, MWF, Angat Buhay Foundation and MNWD also mobilized and funded water tankers to augment water supply for the needs of Naga City and the 10-day celebration of the Peñafrancia Festival, anticipating increased water demand brought about by the influx of visitors and pilgrims during the much-anticipated event. The Lináng technical advisement aims to strengthen MNWD water security plans and improve service delivery across the coverage areas of the water district.

Three (3) water tankers -- two with a capacity of 10 cubic meters and one with a capacity of five cubic meters arrived on September 11 and will remain in the province for three weeks. The said water tankers are currently serving the municipalities of Gainza, Camaligan and in various barangays in Naga City, areas which are currently experiencing limited water supply.

These efforts are the result of onsite assessments, conducted by volunteers under the Linang Program. In August, Manila Water and MWF sent a team of WASH Technical Volunteers to gather data and assess its water supply status, which included possible water sources, chokepoints in transmission, geological challenges, and even temporary water allocation. Recently, former Vice President and Angat Buhay Foundation Chairperson Atty. Leni Robredo also visited Manila Water wherein MWF and the Manila Water technical panel presented the situation report and provided recommendations, to address the water supply problem in Naga City.

Manila Water Foundation’s Lináng is a technical mentorship synergy to strengthen local government units, local water districts, and WASH groups. It bridges MWC's technical excellence to improve the WASH partner's operations, maintenance, and management of water supply and sanitation systems. MWF’s Lináng enhances WASH capabilities to improve water service delivery especially for underserved communities.
